Job Overview
Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an ambitious clinician with expertise in health data, informatics and research to join us as Deputy Chief Research Information Officer (Deputy CRIO). This is a part-time appointment of 2 Programmed Activities (2 PAs), equivalent to 0.2 WTE, offering an excellent opportunity to undertake a senior research informatics leadership role alongside an existing clinical or academic post.
Working closely with the Chief Research Information Officer, the successful candidate will help develop the Trust's research informatics infrastructure, governance frameworks and strategic partnerships, supporting Moorfields' position as a global leader in data-enabled eye research. We welcome applications from consultants, clinical academics, fellows, and specialty doctors with the appropriate experience and a strong interest in health data research and innovation.
Main duties of the job
The Deputy CRIO Will
- Support the leadership and delivery of the Trust's strategy for clinical data and informatics research.
- Develop research informatics infrastructure, data standards and interoperability frameworks.
- Work alongside the CRIO to establish robust governance arrangements for the secondary use of data in research.
- Ensure compliance with information governance, data protection and regulatory requirements.
- Support Trust-wide programmes, including the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programme and the move to Oriel, ensuring research informatics requirements are embedded.
- Build partnerships with NHS organisations, universities, research funders and industry collaborators.
- Support the development of high-quality, data-driven research that improves patient outcomes and advances clinical knowledge.
- Deputise for the Chief Research Information Officer where required.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative clinician who is passionate about the use of data to improve research and patient outcomes. Whether you are an established consultant, clinical academic, fellow or senior trainee, you will bring expertise, curiosity and a commitment to developing innovative approaches to health data research.

Person specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration (with a ‘Licence to Practise’)
- Formal training in some aspects of clinical or research informatics e.g. NHS Digital Academy, Masters in Informatics, etc.
Desirable criteria
- Be on or eligible for the GMC specialist register, or be within twelve months of entry
- Higher Degree (e.g. MD or PhD
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience of using data beyond simple audit to change processes within an organisation
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Deep understanding of interoperability standards within health informatics.
