Deputy Director for Criminal Enforcement Unit
Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Deputy Director for Criminal Enforcement Unit for a UK regulatory agency.
Location: Canary Wharf, London or Potters Bar, Hertfordshire (there will be a requirement to travel nationally and internationally with overnight stays as needed)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £86,000 - £117,800
Vetting: SC on entry and Developed Vetting (DV) once in post.
Main Responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to provide strategic leadership for the unit, ensuring the Agency has an effective, intelligence-led and proportionate capability to address the most serious criminal breaches of medicines and medical devices regulations. The postholder is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the unit, ensuring its activity supports the Agency's wider regulatory objectives and contributes to protecting public health.
The role leads a multi-disciplinary team, fostering a culture of professionalism, continuous improvement and high performance, while ensuring that decision-making across the unit is robust, evidence-based and aligned with the Agency's priorities. The postholder represents the Agency at senior levels across government, law enforcement and the wider regulatory community, building effective partnerships to strengthen the UK's response to criminal threats.

As head of the CEU, the Deputy Director for Criminal Enforcement is accountable to the Executive Committee and ultimately to the Agency’s Board for the unit’s overall delivery and performance.
Person Specification
- Significant senior leadership experience within the law enforcement or intelligence professions, preferably within an organisation with national and international responsibilities
- Extensive experience of developing and delivering strategic priorities, balancing operational effectiveness with organisational, legal and reputational considerations.
- Substantial experience at communicating to multiple audiences with preferably demonstrable experience of representing an organisation at senior level as a media spokesperson and communicating confidently through television, radio and print media.
- Experience of advising senior officials or executives on complex or highly sensitive issues, including the preparation of appropriate briefings and evidence.
- Experience of leading the strategic response to complex, high-profile or sensitive criminal threats, exercising sound judgement in politically and publicly sensitive environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of criminal investigation and intelligence management principles, the criminal justice system and the legal framework governing them.
- Strong understanding of intelligence-led law enforcement, strategic risk and the application of proportionate enforcement approaches to protect the public.
