Role Summary
We are looking for someone to join the Editorial Team as Deputy Editor for the Association for Coaching (AC) flagship publication, Coaching Perspectives. This part-time role will suit someone with a coaching background and a love of editing and/or experience of working in editorial roles in journalism or digital media publishing. You will likely already have a portfolio of work that will complement this role, which is part-time and flexible. It is positioned as an AC Contributor Role which provides an opportunity for you to contribute your ideas and expertise to the profession while benefiting from the unique opportunity for professional development that comes from close collaboration with coaching professionals at the AC.
Coaching Perspectives is the global magazine of the Association for Coaching. It is published quarterly in digital format and reaches over 10,000 readers worldwide. The magazine has established itself as a leading voice in the coaching profession.
The Editorial Team currently consists of Executive Editor - Hetty Einzig, Editor - Clare Manning and Production Coordinator - Alex Curley, plus a sub editor and a designer. All team members are part-time. The team works collaboratively, supporting each other where needed; responsibilities are often shared and negotiated to accommodate the needs of team members and production demands.
The role of Deputy Editor may include some or all the following:
- Generating ideas for themes and new features, in collaboration with the team
- Sourcing new contributors to ensure diversity, geographical spread, and new ideas, in collaboration with the team
- Commissioning articles from contributors, in collaboration with the team
- Carrying out interviews and writing these up
- Coordinating book reviews for each edition
- Editing articles in line with our house style, some of which may be returned to the contributor for revision
- Raising the profile of the magazine through increasing our social media activity, hosting LinkedIn Live interviews etc.
- Exploring income generating streams such as advertising
- Developing new ways for members to access articles such as audible versions, an online database of articles for members
- Deputize for the editor as required

This is a self-employed contract with a monthly honorarium of £800 and includes a complimentary AC membership. As a global organisation, we welcome applications from anywhere in the world and our approach is flexible regarding where and when you work, apart from scheduled team calls. Your monthly hours will vary due to the cyclical nature of a quarterly publication, but you can expect to spend between 2-4 days a month working on the above tasks.

Qualifications
- Strong editorial and writing skills, including experience in editing, proofreading, and shaping content for professional audiences.
- Background in publishing, journalism, communications, or a related field, with familiarity in managing editorial calendars and content workflows.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with contributors, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams in a remote environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
- Understanding of professional or membership-based organizations; interest or experience in coaching, learning and development, or related disciplines is an advantage.
- Proficiency with standard content and document collaboration tools (e.g., word processing, shared drives, project or task management software).
- Commitment to ethical, inclusive, and non-discriminatory communication, aligned with AC’s professional code of conduct.
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in editing, communications, or related areas.
