Deputy Finance Manager
Position: Deputy Finance Manager
Salary: £33,635 rising incrementally to £37,035
Location: Southend on Sea
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Closing date: 21st October 2026
About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional looking to take on a varied and responsible role within a values-led organisation.
Reporting to the Head of Finance and overseeing two Accounts Assistants, you will help maintain accurate accounting records through to trial balance, ensure robust financial controls and support the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Processing purchase invoices, approvals and supplier queries
- Maintaining the purchase ledger and completing reconciliations
- Assisting with weekly BACS payment runs
- Completing daily and monthly bank reconciliations and monitoring cash balances
- Supporting weekly cashflow production and monitoring
- Administering staff debit cards and posting transactions
- Preparing and posting journals to the P&L and balance sheet
- Producing financial reports using QuickBooks and Excel, including pivot tables and lookups
- Overseeing two Accounts Assistants and providing day-to-day guidance and support
- Assisting with audit queries and providing cover for the Head of Finance when required
- Ensuring finance policies and financial controls are consistently followed

About you
You will be AAT Level 4 qualified, studying towards the qualification, hold an equivalent qualification or have significant relevant experience (QBE).
You will have strong hands-on finance experience and be comfortable working autonomously whilst also contributing as part of a collaborative team.
Previous experience using QuickBooks and QuickBooks reporting is essential, along with experience of maintaining financial controls.

Highly organised and detail-focused, you will be able to prioritise a varied workload, meet deadlines and communicate effectively with finance and non-finance colleagues.
Experience within charity finance or a multi-property environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
