Deputy Head of Clinical Services
Fitzwilliam, Thorpe Wood & Boston West Hospitals
Fitzwilliam Hospital is an established five-theatre site in Peterborough offering in-patient, day-case, physiotherapy, and diagnostic services. A new exciting opportunity has arisen for a deputy head of clinical services due to an expansion in the form of a third additional site at Thorpe Wood in Peterborough. The new, purpose-built site with two theatres will open its doors to day-case, diagnostics, and out-patient services in 2027. In Boston, Lincolnshire, an established two-theatre day case offers day-case and out-patient services.
Joining us as a deputy head of clinical service, you will form part of an existing team that oversees services across these locations. All three hospitals are part of Ramsay, a leading global private healthcare provider established in 1964, with hundreds of facilities across eight countries.
We are seeking an individual committed to excellent patient outcomes and efficient patient pathways. Reporting to the Head of Clinical Services, you will work alongside an existing Deputy Head of Clinical Services, sharing a broad range of responsibilities and supporting Heads of Department.
What you’ll bring with you
You will be committed to high-quality, evidence-based acute care and bring the drive, creativity, and resilience needed to support continuous improvement. Working closely with the Head of Clinical Services, you will help sustain high standards of patient safety, care, and service quality.
As Deputy Head of Clinical Services, you will support Heads of Department in the day-to-day operational management of clinical services, ensuring safe, effective delivery in line with best practice. You will be a confident senior clinical leader who can solve problems, provide clear direction, and step into clinical practice when required. Strong communication skills are essential, enabling you to influence others and constructively challenge practice at all levels.
You will lead and embed improvements to patient pathways across specialties, provide expert advice to nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams, and deputise for the Head of Clinical Services when required. Broad knowledge and experience of quality governance, incident management, data analysis, and resulting actions are essential.

- Unrestricted professional clinical registration
- Strong academic and analytical report-writing skills
- Previous experience of line managing clinical departments

About us
Thorpe Wood will open to patients in 2027, joining Ramsay Health Care UK’s existing 34 UK sites. Located in Peterborough, it will work closely with Fitzwilliam Hospital in South Bretton, an established independent private and NHS-partnered hospital serving the local community since 1983 with minor and complex surgery, diagnostics, and physiotherapy. The senior leadership team also oversees Boston West Hospital in Lincolnshire. Investment in advanced medical technology across the three sites supports a broad range of treatments and services. Nine operating theatres will provide specialties including orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology, ENT, ophthalmology, cosmetic surgery, endoscopy, and urology.
Ramsay Health Care UK is one of England’s leading independent healthcare providers, with 35 hospitals, 7,600 staff, and around 200,000 patients treated each year. We offer a comprehensive range of specialised clinical services, including routine and complex surgery, day-case procedures, cancer care, diagnostics, and physiotherapy. Our three standalone decontamination units also play an essential role in supporting clinical outcomes.
