About Us & The Role

Bidford on Avon Primary School is a thriving 1.5-form entry Church of England primary school with high aspirations for every child. We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Deputy Headteacher to join our leadership team from January 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, inspirational and reflective leader who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey and play a significant role in shaping the future development of our school.

Working closely with the Headteacher and wider leadership team, the successful candidate will contribute to the strategic and operational leadership of the school and will play a key role in ensuring that our children receive the very best education and opportunities.

The Deputy Headteacher will have a significant role in:

  • Leading and developing high-quality teaching and learning across the school.
  • Modelling excellent classroom practice and supporting colleagues to develop their professional practice.
  • Using assessment and pupil progress information effectively to identify priorities and improve outcomes.
  • Supporting school self-evaluation, strategic planning and school improvement.
  • Developing and coaching staff and contributing to professional development and performance management.
  • Promoting high expectations for behaviour, attitudes to learning and achievement.
  • Championing inclusion and ensuring that every child is supported to achieve their full potential.
  • Taking a lead role in safeguarding and promoting a strong culture of safeguarding across the school.
  • Supporting the day-to-day leadership and management of the school.
  • Assuming responsibility for the management of the school in the Headteacher's absence.
  • Working positively with children, staff, parents, governors, the church and wider community.
  • Promoting and developing the distinctive Christian character and ethos of our school.

Key Requirements

We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has recent experience of teaching the National Curriculum.
  • Is an outstanding classroom practitioner with high aspirations for every child.
  • Has experience of raising standards and improving outcomes for pupils.
  • Has experience of leading and developing staff and contributing to school improvement.
  • Can inspire, motivate and develop colleagues through coaching, mentoring and professional development.
  • Has high expectations for behaviour, achievement and attitudes to learning.
  • Has a strong understanding of assessment, pupil progress and effective school self-evaluation.
  • Has strong knowledge of the National Curriculum and current educational priorities.
  • Has experience or a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Is committed to inclusion and ensuring that every child is able to flourish.
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and can develop positive relationships with children, staff, parents, governors and external partners.
  • Can work collaboratively with the Headteacher and wider leadership team while also showing initiative and taking responsibility.
  • Understands and values the distinctive Christian character of a Church of England school.
  • Is reflective, resilient, compassionate and committed to continuous improvement.
