About This Role

KEY PURPOSE

As a Member Of The Senior Leadership Team, Assuming a General Responsibility For The Effective Leadership And Development Of The Whole School Strategic Aim, Including

  • Line manage areas as directed by the Headteacher;
  • To deputise for the Headteacher as and when directed;
  • Involvement in the recruitment of teaching and educational support staff;
  • Coordinating aspects of day-to-day administration of the School, including responsibility for potential areas, as outlined below:
    • Alternative Provision for Pupils
    • Pastoral
    • SEND
    • Pupil Premium
    • Safeguarding
    • Attendance

To ensure effective leadership and development of safeguarding and wellbeing. This includes working collaboratively with the Headteacher in:

  • Assisting in the formulation of school improvement objectives
  • Writing and implementing strategic action plans/policies to achieve the objectives set out in the SIP;
  • Leading on key areas of school improvement;
  • Monitoring progress towards the school’s aims and objectives in the SIP;
  • Reporting to the Governing Board, providing information on quality assurance and outcomes;
  • Be an inspirational and inclusive leader who subscribes unerringly to the ethos and values of the school, in its priorities and in its inter-personal relationships;
  • Hold and articulate clear values and moral purpose, focusing on providing a high-quality education for all pupils;
  • Demonstrate professionalism in personal behaviours, positive relationships and attitudes towards pupils, staff, parents/carers, governors and members of the local community;
  • Lead on establishing a safe, calm and well-ordered environment for all pupils and staff;
  • Lead on the implementation and monitoring of the school’s key policies, as directed by the Head Teacher;
  • Inspire and influence others to understand the fundamental importance of education and the impact it has on young people’s lives;
  • Lead by example to foster a strong culture of equality and diversity;
  • Uphold the highest standards of professional and personal conduct;
  • Lead with integrity, compassion, creativity, resilience, and clarity, drawing on your own expertise and skills, as well as the strengths of those around you;
  • Lead by example, providing an excellent role model to young people;
  • Lead on whole-school strategies and policy areas, as directed by the Head Teacher.

Specific Duties (this Is Not An Exhaustive List)

  • Ensuring students are fully supported with wraparound personal support plans where necessary;
  • Ensuring effective documentation and processes are followed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students;
  • In liaison with the Head, overseeing exams process, including logistics for evenings/events under your remit;
  • Compliance with safeguarding policies;
  • Trend analysis of safeguarding ensuring key issues are resolved and fed in to the PHSE programme;
  • Ensuring that all students make outstanding academic progress;
  • Ensuring that all students are safe, happy and have a strong attendance record;
  • Effectively leading and managing staff and deploying resources efficiently and effectively to ensure demonstrable impact;
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of school improvement;
  • Supporting the Pastoral elements of school life, and ensuring that provision reflects the Christian Life of the school;
  • Having high expectations, demanding ambitious standards for all students, overcoming disadvantage and advancing equality, instilling a strong sense of accountability in staff for the impact of their work on student outcomes;
  • Consistently improving outcomes for all students, especially disadvantaged students, through perceptive leadership and through a relentless drive for ambition;
  • Leading by example, with integrity, creativity, resilience and clarity, drawing on own learning, expertise and skills and that of those around them.

Student Personal Development, Behaviour And Attitudes

  • Promoting a culture where students are confident, self-assured learners with excellent attitudes to learning which has a strong and positive impact on their progress and where they are proud of their achievements;
  • Promoting high standards of attendance;
  • Providing a safe, calm and well ordered environment for all students and staff, focusing on safeguarding students and developing their exemplary behaviour in school and in the wider community;
  • Creating and promoting positive strategies for challenging prejudice and to prevent bullying, use of derogatory language or aggressive language;
  • Promoting students spiritual, moral, social and cultural development to equip them to be thoughtful, caring and active citizens in school and wider society;
  • Develop and lead the house system. Including competitions, marketing, engagement with pupils, staff and parents and PR.

Coordinating aspects of day-to-day administration of the school, including responsibility for:

  • Arranging appropriate administrative support for the pastoral functions;
  • Supporting the annual review of School Policies;
  • In liaison with the Head, overseeing the timing and nature of all major publications to parents’ evenings;
  • Assessing the annual budget process for operational expenditure on pastoral care;
  • Training, developing and monitoring the Prefects;
  • Oversee and implement Reward System;
  • All pastoral related policies

Other Responsibilities

  • Undertaking duties as the Head or her delegated representative may reasonably request;
  • To attend daily and weekly meetings, in accordance with school policy and to lead such meetings as required;
  • To take whole school assemblies and to support other staff with assemblies;
  • To attend occasional meetings during evening hours, at weekends or in school holidays, as required.

  • To inspire, motivate and influence staff and students, taking a leading role in maintaining the highest standards of teaching, learning and student behaviour;
  • To provide an excellent role model for all members of staff and for students in all aspects of school life;
  • To accept personal responsibility for supporting the school’s vision, mission and values making a significant and consistent contribution to our ethos and culture;
  • To encourage the personal development of all students and colleagues, maintaining an atmosphere conducive to good working relationships;
  • To undertake any professional duties reasonably delegated by the Head;
  • To engage effectively with all parents and support the resolution of parental complaints;
  • To take responsibility for developing and monitoring policy and practice as laid down in the School Development Plan, and in agreement with the Head;
  • To comply with policies and procedures relating to health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection/GDPR, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person;
  • The postholder will be expected to assist the Head in providing professional leadership for the school.

It should be noted that this is not a definitive list of duties; you will be expected to undertake such other duties as requested from time to time in accordance with the grade of the role.
