Highlands School Deputy Headteacher
Highlands School is looking to appoint a deputy headteacher. We are a heavily oversubscribed ‘Outstanding’ school (OFSTED 2011, 2014 and 2024) at which students consistently outperform national expectations in terms of both attainment and progress.
Our stated goal is “to provide a world class educational experience for our students. In whatever we do, to be held as an example of best practice to other schools.” This is an aspirational goal but one we judge ourselves against at all times. If you are successful in your application you will play a key role in improving Highlands towards achieving this.
We want to recruit a hardworking and driven colleague with very high standards. This vacancy has arisen because one of our deputy heads has just been appointed as a headteacher; the successful candidate will be ambitious and we will support them towards headship too. We appreciate the tight turnaround for this appointment process but we want to have a candidate in post for January 2027.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
