Deputy Head Teacher (Interim) Leadership Scale
Full-time
Interim until December 2026
Hays Education is delighted to be supporting an ambitious and well-regarded secondary school in Liverpool in its search for an experienced Interim Deputy Head Teacher to join the senior leadership team on an interim basis until the end of the autumn term (December 2026). This is an excellent opportunity for a credible and motivated senior leader to make an immediate impact within a supportive and forward-thinking school community.
The Role
- Provide strong, visible senior leadership across the school, deputising for the Headteacher as required.
- Lead on whole-school priorities such as Teaching and Learning, Quality of Education, curriculum, behaviour and attitudes, or safeguarding, depending on the successful candidate's strengths.
- Support the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team in maintaining a calm, purposeful and high-achieving school culture.
- Use data and quality assurance processes effectively to identify priorities and drive improvement.
- Line manage and develop middle and senior leaders, providing coaching and challenge to secure consistently strong practice.
- Represent the school confidently and professionally with staff, pupils, parents and external stakeholders.

The Candidate
- Proven senior leadership experience within a secondary school setting, ideally at Deputy or Assistant Headteacher level.
- A strong track record of school improvement, curriculum leadership or pastoral leadership.
- Confident, calm and credible, with the ability to step into an interim role quickly and effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust across the school community.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Available to start immediately or at short notice and to commit through to the end of the autumn term.
