Job Summary
The Ministry of Defence, Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from cyber and digital transformation, police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, psychologists, storekeepers, and policy secretariat staff to support the British Army.
Please note: This role forms part of an ongoing transformation programme that supports the development of Regional Hubs across Defence. The position is currently based at Chilwell Station as part of the East Midlands Hub. Under the Defence Estate Optimisation Programme, Chilwell Station is currently expected to close around 2030. Subject to programme timelines and approvals, the role is expected to relocate to Kendrew Barracks, Cottesmore, and the post holder will support the transition during this period. As with any large-scale transformation programme, plans may evolve over time as requirements are reviewed and developed. Any significant changes affecting the role will be communicated to staff at the appropriate time.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The Deputy Hub Manager (DHM) is part of the “Joint Military Command (JMC) Centre’s” Firm Base (FB) provision team, deputising and providing assistance to the Hub Manager (HM) in the East Midlands Area of Responsibility. The post will be principally based at Chetwynd Barracks, Chilwell but will have delegated FB responsibilities across all sites within the East Midlands Hub, and will be required to travel to other sites when required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deputise for the East Midlands JMC Hub manager as required.
- Provide efficient and effective oversight and management of Firm Base functions across sites as directed by HQ JMC Centre.
- Engage and provide agreed FB support to Military users (Lodgers) and other non-military users (Tenants) on all East Midlands Hub sites.
- Liaison with site end users to develop, deliver and review Firm Base agreements.
- Maintain proactive liaison and engagement to ensure a Safe place.
- Liaison with Subject matter experts to develop, implement and oversee policies and procedures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site.
- Identify, and where appropriate escalate risks and issues via the Hub Manager to the appropriate partner, with suggested mitigations.
- Cohere and maintain business continuity plans for the site(s), ensuring ownership and responsibilities between users are clear.
- Undertake other duties and tasks as required by the East Midlands HM or JMC Centre HQ, as appropriate for the Post grade.

Essential Skills Required:
- Able to communicate clearly and build good working relationships with a variety of partners, both internal and external.
- Initiative to prioritise workload to meet challenging priorities.
- Good Information Technology Skills, including basic Microsoft Office 365.
- Full UK Driving licence (required due to dispersed site locations and limited public transport).
