Location: Hertfordshire (on-site)
Salary: £30,000.00 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week. The role includes some evenings and weekends, and an on-call commitment, in line with the needs of a residential home.

About the home
Our client is a small, welcoming children's residential home supporting children and young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities. The home places the wishes, feelings, and wellbeing of each child at the centre of everything it does, and is looking for a Deputy Manager who shares that commitment.
About the role
As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day leadership of the home and take the lead in their absence. You will help create a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment, guide and support the staff team, and make sure the care provided meets the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the associated Quality Standards.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager in the daily running of the home, and deputise in their absence.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the staff team, including shift leadership and staff supervision.
- Help ensure high-quality, child-centred care that promotes each child's safety, development, and wellbeing.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of every child, following the home's safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Support accurate, timely record-keeping and contribute to care planning and risk assessments.
- Help ensure the home meets its regulatory requirements and is ready for inspection at all times.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, social workers, and other professionals.
- Support staff induction, training, and development.

What you will need (essential)
- A Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare, or a recognised equivalent.
- Experience of working with children or young people in a residential care setting.
- A good working knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards, and safeguarding practice.
- The ability to lead and support a staff team, including on shift.
- A commitment to child-centred, therapeutic care.
- The right to work in the UK, and willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and full pre-employment safer-recruitment checks.

Desirable
- The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), held or working towards. If you do not yet hold it, there is the opportunity to work towards it in post.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Experience of supporting children with learning disabilities.
