Deputy MLRO
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office)
Reporting to: MLRO / Head of AML
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Deputy MLRO to support the ongoing development and oversight of our financial crime compliance framework. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced AML professional to play a key role within a growing financial services organisation, helping to ensure robust compliance with regulatory obligations while supporting business growth.
The successful candidate will assist with day-to-day anti-money laundering activities, financial crime investigations, regulatory engagement, and the continuous enhancement of AML controls and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the MLRO with daily AML and financial crime compliance activities.
- Review internal alerts, prepare investigation summaries, and support regulatory responses.
- Maintain and update AML policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Assist during audits, regulatory inspections, and information requests.
- Conduct Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) reviews, ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
- Support onboarding escalations and provide guidance to operational teams on AML matters.
- Review higher-risk customer files and financial crime indicators, escalating concerns where appropriate.
- Monitor and oversee outsourced compliance activities to ensure adherence to expected standards.
- Identify control weaknesses and recommend practical improvements.
- Investigate unusual or suspicious activity and gather information for further analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of external reporting obligations where required.
- Maintain accurate investigation records, compliance logs, and regulatory registers.
- Produce management information and AML reporting for senior stakeholders.
- Contribute to AML, compliance, and financial crime-related projects and initiatives.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in AML, financial crime, compliance, or risk within a regulated financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of FCA regulatory requirements applicable to EMIs, payment institutions, fintechs, or similar regulated firms.
- Knowledge of AML/CTF frameworks, including customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, and risk-based assessments.
- Ability to identify suspicious activity indicators and financial crime risks.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across business functions and external stakeholders.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and problem-solving.

Desirable
- Experience working within an EMI, payments business, fintech, digital assets, or cryptocurrency environment.
- Professional AML/CTF qualifications such as ICA or ACAMS.
- Understanding of cryptoasset-related financial crime risks, blockchain tracing concepts, and virtual asset service provider (VASP) controls.
