Deputy Operations Managers
Are you an experienced operational leader who enjoys working in a fast-moving environment and bringing teams together to deliver safely and effectively?
Due to internal progression, we have three opportunities for Deputy Operations Managers across the Port of Liverpool: two permanent roles and one 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills, influence operational performance and help support one of the UK’s most important ports.
Your role
Reporting to a Terminal Business Unit Manager, you will support the safe, efficient and effective delivery of terminal operations. As part of the Site Leadership Team, you will work closely with Shift Supervisors, Operatives and Support teams, helping connect management and frontline colleagues through clear communication and collaboration.
You will contribute to the day-to-day management of terminal activity, including vessel scheduling and berth planning, customer service, performance, stock and asset management, audit and compliance, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with our Engineering teams, managing our assets and driving reliability of our equipment.
You will also deputise for the Business Unit Manager when needed, support technology improvements, develop colleague capability and build strong working relationships across the terminal.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
