Job Overview
The post holder will work in partnership with the General Surgery Management Team within Southmead Hospital Operating Unit. Responsibilities include supporting the Performance and Operations Manager to maximize service delivery benefits across all sub-specialty areas, facilitating smooth and timely patient journeys, and developing a culture of continuous improvement.
Main Duties
- Work in partnership with the General Surgery Management Team within Southmead Hospital Operating Unit.
- Support the Performance and Operations Manager to maximize the benefits of service delivery across all sub-specialty areas.
- Facilitate the smooth and timely running of the patient journey.
- Ensure coordinated and streamlined clinical and administrative processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.
- Have a working knowledge of weight management pathways, cancer and RTT pathways, national standards, and Trust targets.
- Deliver highly effective patient pathways in a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Communicate effectively and influence across a multi-disciplinary team.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Essential criteria:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- Management of waiting lists and performance.
- Excellent managerial, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Acute sector operational experience.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively, building credibility quickly.
- Knowledge of current NHS issues including performance targets.
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent IT skills and ability to produce analytical reports.
- Ability to manage a post that will change and develop and be flexible to meet the needs of the service.
- Initiative and drive to achieve results.
- Resilient and proven ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to take the strategic view whilst giving attention to getting details correct.
- Able to work autonomously, collaboratively, and as part of a multi-professional team.
- Experience of managing challenging situations and challenging relationships.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities.

Desirable criteria:
- Post graduate qualification in healthcare management or equivalent evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
- NHS or public sector experience.
- Experience of managing staff.
