Job Overview
The post holder will work in partnership with the General Surgery Management Team within Southmead Hospital Operating Unit. The role will support the Performance and Operations Manager to maximize the benefits of service delivery across all sub-specialty areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the smooth and timely running of the patient journey by ensuring coordinated and streamlined clinical and administrative processes revolve around the patient and their individual needs.
- Have a working knowledge of weight management pathways, including both medical and surgical pathways, cancer and RTT pathways, national standards, and Trust targets.
- Work to develop and embed a culture of continuous improvement within clinical and administrative teams.
- Deliver highly effective patient pathways by supporting the work in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Essential Skills and Qualities
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across a multi-disciplinary team, including consultants, junior doctors, specialist nurses, theatre teams, admin staff, and managers.
- Highly organized, hard-working, able to work under pressure, with acute attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification in healthcare management or equivalent evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
Work Experience
Essential criteria
- Management of waiting lists and performance.
- Excellent managerial, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a multi-professional approach.
- Acute sector operational experience.
Desirable criteria
- NHS or public sector experience.
- Experience of managing staff.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively, building credibility quickly, and ability to influence a wide range of people.
- Knowledge of current NHS issues, including performance targets.
- Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Excellent IT skills and an ability to produce analytical reports.
