Job Opportunity: Band 8a Deputy Principal Cardiac Physiologist

It is a fantastic opportunity for current 8a or experienced band 7 Cardiac Physiologist to further their career at St Barts Health NHS Trust.

Barts Health NHS Trust and University College London Hospital (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust together offer one of the largest echocardiography services, conducting nearly 70,000 scans each year. UCLH features a comprehensive cardiac diagnostic and imaging service that provides advanced cardiac physiology support for a variety of complex clinical pathways. In collaboration with partner organizations, including Barts Health NHS Trust, this service is recognized for its commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and the advancement of specialized cardiovascular care.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 8a Deputy Principal Cardiac Physiologist – Advanced Echo Specialist, QA & Education Lead to join our cardiac physiology service mainly at (UCLH). This is an exciting opportunity for an expert echocardiographer to take on a senior leadership role that combines advanced clinical practice with responsibility for quality assurance, service development, and education within a large, multi-site NHS organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist clinical leadership in echocardiography
  • Deliver advanced procedures including physiologist-led valve, aortopathy and late effects clinics, stress, transoesophageal, contrast and bubble echocardiography, as well as pregnancy and paediatric echo services
  • Lead on quality assurance, clinical governance, and service improvement
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support service delivery across all sites
  • Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and training cardiac physiologists, cardiology and intensive care trainees

Qualifications and Requirements

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
  • BSE accredited (or equivalent)
  • Substantial experience in advanced echocardiography
