Deputy Service Manager
We are seeking a dedicated Deputy Service Manager to join our Independent Approved Premises (IAP), commissioned by the Ministry of Justice, based in Romford.
The service provides accommodation and support for individuals transitioning from custody into the community, helping them address barriers to resettlement, reduce the risk of reoffending, and build positive, independent futures.
In this role, you will support the Service Manager in providing leadership and operational oversight of the service, ensuring residents receive high-quality, person-centred support within a safe, structured, and rehabilitative environment.
You will have line management responsibility for frontline staff, supporting, coaching, and developing the team to deliver effective interventions that promote rehabilitation, personal responsibility, and successful reintegration into the community.
Working closely with Probation Services, Criminal Justice partners, local authorities, housing providers, and other external agencies, you will help ensure residents receive coordinated support that promotes recovery, resilience, and long-term positive outcomes.
We are looking for a proactive and solution-focused individual with experience in supported housing, criminal justice, or related services, who can foster an environment where both residents and staff can develop, grow, and succeed
Location: Romford, Havering. Please note that this location does not have step free access
Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday on a rota varying between 08:00 - 21:00. You may be required to work outside these hours dependent on service and resident requirements including weekends and bank holidays so flexibility will be required. You will also take part in our out of hours on call service for managers.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Line management and leadership, offering guidance and support throughout the employee lifecycle, fostering a supportive leadership culture focused on staff wellbeing, learning, and development
- Encourage productivity, engagement, and wellbeing of the team through regular check-ins, training, meetings, and supervisions.
- Support with day to day tasks within the service such as direct support to residents and supporting the team to deliver the best possible outcomes with their residents.
- Ensure Risk Management processes and policies are followed within the service.
- Property and housing management, ensuring accommodation standards, timely maintenance and reporting.
- Striving to ensure excellence and quality in our service delivery.
- Financial Management of service budget with cost saving mechanisms.

About You
We're seeking someone who has a genuine passion for supporting individuals involved in the Criminal Justice System and helping create safer communities.
You will be a proactive and compassionate leader with the ability to motivate, inspire, and empower a team.
Understanding the importance of rehabilitation, risk management, safeguarding, and trauma-informed practice, and who can create an environment where individuals feel supported to develop their skills, build resilience, and achieve positive long-term outcomes.
Your ability to balance operational responsibilities with a person-centred approach will be key to your success in this role.
What We Are Looking For
- Ability to provide high quality support and line management to staff
- Ability to motivate and empower a team to achieve KPI's
- Ability to support the Service Manager and help manage staff with daily tasks, caseloads and overall day to day running of the service
- Ability to provide advice, guidance, and support to the team on all aspects of service delivery including resident related queries
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the demands and needs of the service. For example, Provide an emergency on call service as and when required in case of emergency
- IT proficiency - we use various systems so look for someone who can learn and navigate new systems including case management, Microsoft, ATS, HR systems, and other types of organisational software
