Phoenix Futures is looking to recruit a passionate and solution-focused Deputy Service Manager at HMP Pentonville

This post requires a resilient and robust manager who has a keen eye for attention to detail. We will be shortlisting and arranging interviews throughout the period this listing is active. As such, we may close the listing earlier than advertised if a suitable applicant is found.

The Role

As Deputy Service Manager you will be leading on the line management of the 3 Team managers, 2 Senior Practitioners and the Continuity of Care Data Manager. You will be supporting the Service Manager with ensuring the quality of work produced by the team is at the highest level. This will involve having oversight and quality assurance of the case file audits, live observations and supervision sessions carried out by the Team Managers.

You will support the service manager to ensure that the treatment approaches and interventions are appropriate, innovative and fully meet the needs of the service users, the organisation and commissioners.

The support your role brings will enable the Service Manager to focus their efforts on the strategic elements of the service and support them to develop the service effectively.

This is a fast paced prison environment, where risk management is a key skill. We must ensure that all people we are working with receive the correct level of care and that we make the correct referrals. This facilitates continuity of care when they return to life in the community. One of our biggest challenges in a prison where the majority of people in custody are on remand with no fixed release date, is making sure we act promptly and respond to all changes in circumstances quickly and effectively.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
