Deputy Shift Supervisor
Location: RAF Brize Norton, Carterton, OX18 3LX Salary: £35,087.50 (including shift allowance) Schedule: Full-time – 42 hours per week, 2 days on, 2 nights on, 4 days off

As a Deputy Shift Supervisor in our RAF Brize Norton team, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining essential transport operations, ensuring colleagues deliver critical services safely and on time.
Your work directly supports effective military operations, contributing to safer, well-coordinated movement every day. You’ll help create an efficient, safe, and well-organised environment by:
- Supporting colleagues and allocating resources
- Maintaining compliance standards
- Making a positive impact across the organisation
Key Responsibilities
You’ll be entrusted with:
- Supervisory duties for MT Ops drivers when the Shift Supervisor is absent
- Supporting the MT Ops Manager in daily operations and coordination
- Ensuring all transport requests are completed in line with Joint Service Publication (JSP) 800 Vol 5
- Allocating and supervising MT colleagues within delegated authority
- Monitoring attendance, conduct, and performance
- Ensuring drivers possess the correct documentation, equipment, and task information
- Reporting vehicle faults, defects, or breakdowns according to procedures
- Matching trained and qualified personnel to suitable vehicles based on requests
- Briefing drivers to guarantee tasks are completed safely and effectively
- Scheduling vehicles for cost-efficiency while maintaining safety
- Promoting a strengthening safety-first culture without compromise
- Ensuring compliance with Operator’s Licence requirements, including:
- ISO standards
- Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAW)
- Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
- Managing the Clarity fleet management system for daily operations
- Reporting operational, safety, compliance, or risk issues to MT leadership
- Keeping up-to-date with relevant legislation and policies
- Undertaking driving duties when required

Essential Requirements
This role requires:
- A full driving license (Cat **D and Cat C preferred, C+E desirable)
- Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC)
- Colour vision meeting the standard required for an Airfield Driving Permit
- IT literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- In-depth knowledge of Joint Service Motor Transport (MT) and Dangerous Goods Regulations
- Understanding of load and load restraint
- Proven supervisory and leadership experience
- The ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC)
Role-Specific Considerations
Vetting and Checks:
- Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance (includes identity verification, employment history, nationality, and criminal record checks).
- Potential need for higher-level security clearance (e.g., CTC/SC), subject to further background checks (employment history, criminal record, financial background).
- UK residency requirements may apply for specific clearance tiers.
Additionally, applicants will complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire.
