Deputy Shift Team Leader - Energy from Waste
Circa £64,000 + benefits
Kent
SCINERGY Recruitment are looking for a Deputy Shift Team Leader to join the operations department of a well-established EFW power station in Kent.
Reporting to the Shift Manager, you will help lead safe and efficient day-to-day operations, operate plant through the Distributed Control System (DCS) and carry out operational duties across the site whilst acting as an SAP. You will also work closely with the Maintenance and Engineering Teams to improve plant performance and ensure full compliance with site procedures and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all operational activities are carried out in accordance with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
- Operate and monitor plant equipment safely and efficiently, including through the DCS
- Monitor site performance and maintain compliance with environmental permit requirements
- Prepare and apply risk assessments, operational procedures and safe systems of work
- Support operational improvements and initiatives designed to enhance facility performance
- Coordinate contractor activities and ensure work is completed safely and in line with site requirements
- Participate in health and safety inspections, incident reviews and workplace investigations
- Manage operational consumables and contribute to effective operating strategies
- Deputising for the Shift Manager during periods of absence

Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- Operations experience gained within a heavy process environment involving the generation of high-pressure steam, such as power generation, Energy from Waste, CHP, chemical processing or refining
- Merchant Navy and Royal Navy Engineers with significant watchkeeping experience will also be considered
- A relevant engineering qualification, such as an apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, ONC or HNC
- Previous experience as a Senior Authorised Person would be ideal
- A strong understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance, including risk assessments and safe systems of work
- The confidence to coordinate site activities and work effectively with operations, maintenance, cleaning and contractor teams
- Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
- A flexible approach and willingness to work a 12-hour shift pattern covering days and nights, bank holidays and weekends
