About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced registered nurse to join our dynamic Vascular Ward team as a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse.
About Docking Ward
Docking Ward provides specialist care for patients with complex vascular conditions, including post-operative vascular surgery, limb ischaemia, diabetic foot disease, and emergency admissions. This role is ideal for a nurse who is passionate about high-quality patient care, staff development, and clinical leadership.
As a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, You Will
- Act as a visible clinical leader within the ward
- Support the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in the day-to-day management of the ward
- Lead shifts, coordinating safe and effective patient care
- Support and supervise junior staff, students, and new starters
- Promote high standards of nursing practice, patient safety, and experience
- Act as a role model for professional practice and Trust values
- Contribute to quality improvement, audit, and service development

Responsibilities
As a Deputy Sister or Charge Nurse, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality care to patients with complex vascular conditions. Working closely with the Ward Sister, you will help lead the ward on a day-to-day basis, ensuring safe staffing, effective patient flow, and consistently high clinical standards.

You will be a visible clinical leader, supporting and supervising nursing staff while remaining hands-on with patient care. On any given shift, you will coordinate care for patients recovering from major vascular surgery, managing chronic limb-threatening ischaemia, diabetic foot disease, aneurysms, and acute vascular admissions. This is a fast-paced environment where patient acuity can change quickly, and your clinical judgment will be central to keeping patients safe.
Other Key Responsibilities Include
- Contribute to service improvement, staff development, and quality initiatives, acting as a role model for best practice in vascular nursing and professional behaviour, demonstrating the NNUH’s PRIDE values in your daily practice.
- Support the Ward Sister in the overall management of the ward, including acting as nurse-in-charge when required.
- Lead and coordinate shifts to ensure safe staffing, effective patient flow, and high standards of care.
- Deliver expert clinical care to patients with complex vascular needs, including post-operative care and wound management.
- Supervise, mentor, and support all nursing staff.
