Interpersonal and Communication Skills

• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, carers, colleagues, and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and an efficient service.

Professional Knowledge and Expertise

• Possess a BSc in Radiography (or equivalent), HCPC registration, and a Certificate of Competence or Postgraduate Award in Mammography.
• Have a minimum of two years' post-qualification clinical experience.
• Have at least two years' experience working within a Breast Screening Unit and/or NHS Breast Screening Programme environment.
• Maintain knowledge of NHSBSP standards, best practice guidance, and relevant legislation.

Problem Solving and Decision Making

• Use professional judgement to assess and resolve clinical, operational, workforce, and service delivery issues.
• Make informed decisions relating to patient care, staffing, workload prioritisation, and resource allocation, escalating concerns when necessary.

Planning and Coordination

• Demonstrate strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Support the day-to-day operational management of the Breast Screening Programme and symptomatic breast service.
• Work closely with the Superintendent Radiographer and Clinical Director to ensure effective service delivery.
• Contribute to service planning and coordination across screening and symptomatic pathways.

Practical and Technical Skills

• Work competently across all areas of mammography practice, including screening mammography, further views, stereotactic biopsies, and wire localisations.
• Apply advanced clinical reasoning to adapt examinations and techniques to individual patient needs.
• Perform mammography to NHSBSP quality standards and performance targets, maintaining high levels of patient satisfaction and care.
• Ensure diagnostic images are produced efficiently whilst maintaining quality, safety, and patient-centred care.

Patient Care and Support

• Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide an efficient and effective service across screening and assessment settings.
• Undertake clinical duties at the Avon Breast Screening Unit, Symptomatic Breast Clinic, static sites, and mobile screening units as required.
• Provide patients with appropriate information regarding procedures, benefits, and risks.
• Obtain valid consent in accordance with professional, Trust, and legal requirements.
• Deliver compassionate, person-centred care at all times.

Service Development and Improvement

• Support the development, implementation, and review of policies, procedures, and service improvements.
• Participate in audit, quality assurance, and service evaluation activities.
• Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve patient care, service quality, and operational effectiveness.

Finance and Resource Management

• Ensure the safe and efficient use of equipment, consumables, and departmental resources.
• Support stock control, procurement, and equipment maintenance processes.
• Report equipment faults and resource requirements in a timely manner.

Leadership and Team Management

• Deputise for the Superintendent Radiographer in their absence.
• Demonstrate a proactive and supportive leadership style that promotes effective team working.
• Support compliance with the Trust's Risk Management Strategy.
• Assist with workforce management responsibilities, including annual leave, sickness management, appraisals, protocol reviews, student placements, and training coordination.
• Provide mentorship, supervision, and support to trainee mammographers and other staff as appropriate.

• Ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation, NHS information governance requirements, and Trust policies.
