We are St Andrew’s, a mental health charity with a clear purpose: to inspire hope for people living with complex mental health needs. Our Birmingham site is on an ambitious improvement journey.
St Andrew’s Birmingham is a 125 bedded adult mental healthcare facility comprises of eight units that cover medium and low security for both Men and Women. Located in Stirchley, a vibrant area in South Birmingham, easily accessible by road networks and public transport.
We provide safe, effective, patient-centred care in line with national standards set by the Quality Network for Forensic Mental Health Services, essential standards from the CQC, and best practice guidance relevant to secure care from the National Institute of Health and Social Care Excellence (NICE).

Main Duties of the Role
- Lead your team by example and work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
- There will be a degree of flexibility in shifts allowing direct links with your colleagues across our expert Multi-Disciplinary Teams with the aim of delivering high standards of care through continuity and consistency.
You Will Need To
- Co-ordinate the multi-disciplinary team/s to ensure all clinical services provided to the ward function effectively and efficiently to meet individual patient needs.
- Collaboratively contributing towards providing visible and strong clinical leadership that sets the appropriate culture for effective team working, clinical outcomes and patient engagement.
- Responsible for line managing and developing designated nursing staff in order to maintain high standards and lead clinical care, resulting in high levels of engagement.
- Lead by example; acting with honesty, respect, commitment and consistency.
- Supporting the Ward Manager in motivating, assessing, training, developing, appraising and retaining appropriate staff enabling them to have the skills, expertise and discretion to function effectively in their roles, and to deliver high-quality care.
- Ensure that patients receive quality care in a safe and least restrictive manner by monitoring and ensuring adherence to least restrictive practice.
- Ensures the clinical environment is clean and safe for all and is fit-for-purpose for delivering quality care.
- Implements evidence-based standards of clinical care that are safe, person-centred and effective. Ensure that charity standards, policy, procedures and protocols are adhered to and that concerns are identified and immediately managed or escalated. Be professionally responsible for compliance with quality standards.
- To ensure ward staff are engaged in continuous quality improvement that supports the ongoing delivery of effective and efficient clinical services.
- Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence or as required.
