Job Summary

The Deputy Welfare Officer is a member of a small, dynamic busy Welfare team, responsible to the Commanding Officer for providing first line confidential support to the welfare needs of the families, service personnel and the wounded, injured and sick within the unit, under the supervision of the Unit Welfare Officer.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job Description

Daily Tasks

Day-to-day welfare support to the service personnel and families of the unit including the following:

  • Advise the chain of command on welfare cases and policy.
  • Deputise for the UWO in their absence.
  • Advise on the use of the VRM system.
  • Maintain the equipment held on account and ensure its cleanliness, serviceability and functionality.
  • Management of the Wounded Injured & Sick Information system.
  • Admin support to the unit’s community development plan.
  • Undertake learning, development and upskilling as required.

In discharging these tasks, the specific actions that are required are as follows:

  • Manage the allocated Welfare Office vehicles & associated administrative tasks.
  • Plan and deliver unit family’s events.
  • Assistance in the production and distribution of welfare information.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual assurance/inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with MoD and Unit policy in welfare matters.
  • Provide welfare advice to the chain of command.
  • Be on the On-Call Duty Welfare Officer Rosta. Be prepared to work unsociable hours when required (Phone provided & On call allowance funded).
  • Any other duties, as required by the CO and UWO that are reasonably expected for the post grade.

Salary and Benefits

Alongside your salary of £30,740, Ministry of Defence contributes £8,905 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
