The Design Clerk will report to the Design Lead and will be based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee in our UK Power Networks team.
You will attract a salary of £41,031 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Purpose
You will be responsible for monitoring, enabling, and coordination between customers, project managers, and designers.
The post holder will be working across UKPN directorates and external customers, collating stakeholder requirements, ensuring the necessary information is available as part of the design process.
Responsibilities
- Sourcing survey information from specialist contractors.
- Notification to HSE of all Notifiable projects.
- Monitoring P6 for progress reports and maintaining communications with all parties to ensure efficiency.
- Summarising action points and learning opportunities from P6 exception reports, design reviews, and Risk & Value events.
- Self-motivated and able to work with the minimum supervision.
- Requires site meetings at UKPN and customer site offices, some travel, and work with various office locations.
- Clear communication, both written and verbal, along with the capacity to learn to use new IT and processes.
Principal Accountabilities
- Monitoring the provision of design risk assessments (HEML) ensuring they are carried out on all projects.
- Arranging and holding regular design, Value Engineering, and HEML reviews, monitoring monthly design progress and reporting to ensure financial targets are met.
- Compiling and submitting a statutory notice for all Notifiable projects within their design team and any updates.
- Collating monthly design dashboard, detailing the latest view of project portfolios, workloads, delivery programs, efficiencies, and any underlying performance and design issues.
- Accountability for F10 Notification Letters – Created via the UKPN System, Toolkit.
- Accountability for Appointment Letters advising members of the Design Team of their duties of PD, PC, and letter informing the client of their duties as client representative.
- Accountability for tracking statuses and uploading design-related project documents into UKPN Systems.
- Updating document and drawing registers and compiling information provided by others into Health and Safety files.
- Inserting P6 commentary and required as documented by individual team members.
- Accountability for Capital Programme milestone recording/monitoring.
- Providing support to the design team lead and coordination of the design team regarding monthly progress.
- Supporting the wider engineering team and scheduling of staff and training.
- Familiar with and always adhering to Quality Assurance procedures and company design standards.

Nature And Scope
You will receive projects from the Design Lead and assist the coordination of designers in reaching agreement on the scope of works and deliverables in the form of milestones. The design clerk will work closely with and support designers, design lead, principal designers, and the wider engineering function.
- Accountability for the liaison with design coordinators/leads who will manage external design resources to ensure that the deliverables are completed to budgetary targets, design brief requirements, and within agreed programs.
- Tracking design progress in accordance with the target program of work and milestones to ensure designers meet agreed time scales and budgets.
- Supporting Design Lead / Principal Designers for the timely closure of actions.
- Liaising with technical leads to ensure designs are agreed and reviewed in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Assisting the wider engineering team in the administration of databases, tools, authorizations, training, and scheduling.
- Working as a team player in a dedicated team.
- Requires site meetings at UKPN and customer site offices, some travel, and work with various office locations.
- Evidence of good written, spoken, and visual management skills.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Previous track record in design coordination.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft desktop applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, P6, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Toolkit, Sharepoint, and SAP.
- Ability to work unsupervised, set and comply with own targets, and identify and implement innovative cost-saving solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience in mainstream engineering construction, including electrical networks.
- Holds a full valid driving license.
Health & Safety Responsibilities

- Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to the maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
