Design Delivery Project Manager

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Design Delivery Project Manager to join our Consulting Rail Design team and become part of our vibrant, inclusive community that celebrates our differences and makes a real impact across the UK.

This role will support the delivery of the Cardiff Crossrail project, where Amey has been appointed as Principal Designer Advisor, delivering the Preliminary and Detailed Design phases of this major tramway scheme. Cardiff Crossrail will provide a direct rail connection between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay, enhancing connectivity, capacity and passenger journeys across the city.

Operating as part of our established Rail Design capability, our in-house engineers deliver design across all Network Rail stages and rail disciplines.

What will the role offer?

The standard working week is 37.5 hours, with flexible working practices available to support how you work as your life evolves. The role is primarily based in Cardiff, with an expectation of 2–3 days per week on site, and occasional site visits, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

What you will be doing

Our Design Delivery Project Managers play an important part within the Rail Design team and alongside our clients. As the Design Delivery Project Manager for Cardiff Crossrail, you will take responsibility for the coordination and integration of multidisciplinary design outputs, operating under NEC4 contract conditions.

You will act as a senior point of contact for the project, leading design delivery activities, managing interfaces, maintaining programme and budget control and supporting strong stakeholder relationships throughout the design lifecycle.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee all aspects of project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, risks, and quality. Manage and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team to deliver design outputs on time and within budget.
  • Implement effective project controls and reporting to monitor progress and ensure NEC4 compliance, including management of early warnings, compensation events, and programme submissions.
  • Manage supplier engagement and ensure contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders are in place before starting work.
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental standards throughout. Lead supplier engagement, ensuring contracts are in place before work begins.
  • Support strategic decisions, dispute resolution, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Regularly forecast and report on financial performance, identifying and addressing risks to keep the project on track.
  • Coach and motivate the team to achieve high performance.
  • Attend meetings with clients, suppliers, and third parties

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
