Design Desk Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Design Desk Engineer based in United Kingdom.

Join a technical engineering team responsible for transforming client business needs and technical requirements into reliable, implementation-ready IT solutions. In this fully remote role, you will contribute to solution architecture, technical scoping, proposal development, and detailed project documentation across diverse IT environments. You will work with Microsoft 365, Azure, server infrastructure, virtualization, networking, and security technologies to design solutions that are accurate, feasible, and supportable. You will also use approved AI-assisted tools to improve the speed and quality of engineering deliverables while maintaining responsibility for technical validation. Working closely with stakeholders and technical teams, you will help streamline workflows, strengthen documentation standards, and continuously improve the design process.

Accountabilities:

  • Own design requests from initial review through final documentation, ensuring that proposed solutions meet business objectives, technical standards, and implementation requirements.
  • Translate client requirements and vCIO strategies into solution architectures and implementation-ready documentation.
  • Develop technical proposals, Statements of Work (SOWs), workplans, business requirements, desired outcomes, assumptions, exclusions, dependencies, prerequisites, and milestones.
  • Evaluate proposed solutions for technical accuracy, feasibility, supportability, scope alignment, licensing, risks, labor requirements, and implementation readiness.
  • Review incoming requests for completeness and identify missing technical or business information before proceeding.
  • Validate relevant environment details, including users, workstations, mailboxes, servers, locations, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain clear ownership of assigned requests, documenting status, schedules, decisions, blockers, next steps, and stakeholder communications.
  • Communicate delays, scheduling changes, and issues that could affect project delivery or stakeholder expectations.
  • Participate in request triage, workload reviews, operational activities, and KPI monitoring.
  • Prepare for and support vCIO discussions by documenting requirements, assumptions, risks, expected outcomes, and follow-up actions.
  • Use approved templates, previous examples, vendor documentation, technical references, and internal knowledge resources to develop solutions.
  • Apply approved AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate proposal and design development while independently validating all generated content.
  • Identify and correct technical inaccuracies, unsupported recommendations, scope gaps, and documentation issues before deliverables are released.
  • Contribute to improving templates, intake forms, design libraries, validation procedures, prompts, automation workflows, and engineering standards.
  • Maintain detailed records that enable other engineers to understand request history, current status, previous actions, blockers, and next steps.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
