Design Director/VP – Space/Satellite - Engineering - Contract - Remote
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced semiconductor industry leader to advise a global space and satellite technology business as it establishes and integrates a dedicated semiconductor engineering organisation.
Following the acquisition of a major semiconductor supplier, the business is developing its own in-house capabilities to design and deliver advanced semiconductor products for space and satellite applications. They are seeking a senior industry expert to provide independent, strategic guidance on the structure, setup, performance and long-term development of this business.
Key Responsibilities
As Design Director/VP, you will provide objective, commercially focused advice across the semiconductor organisation, including:
- Organisational Structure: Advise on the appropriate structure of engineering teams, departments and leadership functions.
- Team Sizing & Seniority: Assess engineering headcount, team composition and required levels of seniority.
- Development Strategy: Establish realistic expectations for semiconductor product development timelines, milestones and delivery.
- In-House vs Outsourcing: Recommend which development capabilities should remain internal and which could be delivered through external service providers.
- Engineering Tools & Processes: Review tool usage, workflows and development methodologies to support an efficient, high-performing organisation.
- Project Management: Advise on project management structures, governance and support required to deliver complex semiconductor programmes.
- Product Roadmap: Provide guidance on how semiconductor product roadmaps should be developed, prioritised and aligned with business objectives.
- Leadership & Governance: Support the development of an effective leadership structure, clear accountabilities and appropriate organisational responsibilities.
- Performance & Integration: Identify opportunities to improve operational performance and ensure the semiconductor business is aligned with the wider corporate strategy.

About You
You will be an established semiconductor industry professional with significant experience in building, leading or advising semiconductor engineering organisations. You may come from a background in semiconductor business leadership, engineering management, organisational consulting or executive-level technology strategy, with a strong understanding of the full product development lifecycle.

Key requirements:
- Extensive experience within the semiconductor (Space/Satellite Comms) industry.
- Proven understanding of semiconductor engineering organisations and business operations.
- Experience designing or restructuring engineering teams and departments.
- Knowledge of semiconductor product development, from roadmap definition through to delivery.
- Understanding of internal versus outsourced development models and engineering service providers.
- Experience advising on leadership structures, team sizing, seniority and organisational governance.
- Strong commercial, strategic and analytical capabilities.
- Ability to provide independent, objective advice to senior stakeholders.
- Experience in space, satellite communications or other safety-critical semiconductor applications would be advantageous.
