What You Need To Know About The Role

British Steel is one of the UK's leading steel manufacturers, producing high-quality steel products that support some of the nation's most important infrastructure and industrial projects. As we continue our journey of operational improvement and investment, we are seeking a talented and motivated Design Draughtsperson to join our AIRED Engineering & Design team based in Scunthorpe.

Working within one of Europe's largest steelmaking complexes, you will provide design and draughting support across a diverse portfolio of engineering projects. These projects range from structural steelwork and heavy mechanical plant modifications through to maintenance improvements, capital investment schemes and asset integrity initiatives.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced industrial environment where no two days are the same and your designs will directly contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our manufacturing facilities.

  • Liaise with operational, maintenance and project teams to ensure design requirements are fully understood.
  • Assist in the preparation of bills of materials and drawing packages.
  • Ensure drawings comply with relevant engineering standards, company procedures and health and safety requirements.
  • Support multidisciplinary engineering projects across the business.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
