About The Role
This permanent Design Engineer position in Sunderland offers a salary of £45,000 to £60,000 and sits within renewable energy and building services. The successful candidate will prepare underfloor heating layouts, schematics and technical calculations, specify manifolds, controls, pipework and related components, and support the integration of heat pumps, district heating and commercial plant rooms. Projects run from feasibility and initial design through installation, commissioning and handover. Applicants should hold a background in building services, M&E, renewables or construction engineering, with strong technical design skills and knowledge of heating systems. Working full time, the engineer will collaborate with project teams to deliver compliant, efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Design UFH systems, layouts, schematics and technical calculations.
- Specify manifolds, controls, pipework and associated heating components.
- Support the integration of heat pumps, district heating, communal heating and commercial plant rooms.
- Ensure designs meet relevant Building Regulations, British Standards and industry requirements.
- Review technical drawings, specifications and design submissions.
- Work closely with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers and internal teams.
- Provide technical support throughout installation and commissioning.
- Resolve design and engineering issues and support project handover.
- Assist with technical evaluations, procurement and project documentation.
About You
- Experience in M&E, Building Services, Construction or Renewable Energy.
- Strong engineering design and technical knowledge.
- Experience interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisation and problem-solving abilities.
- A proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable experience includes
- Heat pumps, district heating or communal heating systems.
- Commercial plant rooms or renewable energy projects.
- Main Contractor or Building Services experience.
- CAD or engineering design software.
- Degree/HNC/HND in Engineering, Building Services, Construction or a related discipline.
The Role
- Monday – Friday | Hybrid working available
- The role will involve regular travel to project sites and other company locations.
