Highways & Drainage Design Engineer

We're looking for a Highways & Drainage Design Engineer to join our team based in Various locations. Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor. Join us as a Highways and Drainage Design Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline – supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

Location: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Salary: Starting from £40k per annum

Are you…

  • Holding IEng Initial Professional Development (or CEng equivalent progress) with a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE) with relevant experience, or a Level 6 or Level 7 qualification with relevant experience, or demonstrable relevant experience in engineering
  • Experienced in highways and drainage design solutions
  • Able to manage project responsibilities and lead design teams
  • Committed to maintaining professional development and technical excellence
  • Collaborative and focused on building effective relationships with clients and stakeholders

What will you be responsible for?

As a Highways & Drainage Design Engineer, you'll be working within the design team, supporting them in delivering complex construction engineering services. We're seeking a talented engineer to join our team and contribute to delivering complex construction engineering services. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, providing solutions that are safe, buildable, and innovative. You'll be involved in everything from temporary works design to technical assessments, supporting our reputation for engineering excellence whilst developing your career in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Your Day To Day Will Include

  • Leading temporary works design and checking, with a focus on highways and drainage solutions integrated with permanent works design
  • Providing tender and bid winning support including outline design schemes, feasibility studies, and innovative solutions
  • Conducting technical assessments and reviews of third party designs to ensure compliance with client and Kier requirements
  • Managing project delivery including design deliverables, financial aspects, and client relationships under appropriate supervision
  • Undertaking site visits, surveys and inspections, attending meetings, and providing technical expertise to support project teams
