About The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join their dynamic and expanding team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a technically proficient engineer to lead the design and delivery of bespoke products, automation systems, and materials handling projects from initial concept through to installation. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating innovative engineering solutions, liaising with clients, and managing multiple projects efficiently. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and excellent communication abilities to ensure the successful execution of projects within budget and time constraints.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical engineering background with significant experience in design and automation machinery. A minimum of 10 years' experience in engineering design, automation systems, or related fields is essential. Proficiency in 3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks, is required. Candidates should have a good understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, and project delivery. A full UK driving license is necessary, and candidates should be willing to travel to customer sites as needed. Ideally, applicants will be located within a commutable distance of Aldershot to facilitate regular site visits and meetings.

Responsibilities
The Design Engineer will be responsible for:
- Preparing initial project designs and drawing layouts
- Working closely with the sales team to understand project requirements
- Producing general assembly drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, and BOM schedules using SolidWorks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications
- Supporting project budgets and collaborating with purchasing to maintain cost controls
- Creating final build and installation drawings for production teams
- Issuing jobs to the assembly workshop
- Providing ongoing technical support throughout the build process
Additionally, the role involves:
- Working closely with assembly technicians and workshop personnel to ensure smooth project execution
- Conducting customer site surveys, measurements, and layout checks
- Leading customer design review meetings to discuss project implementation plans
- Supporting and leading technical activities within the design office
- Assisting with R&D projects
- Developing supporting documentation
- Completing design risk assessments and technical documentation
- Maintaining a thorough understanding of products, systems, and applications
- Managing multiple projects to meet key deadlines
