Design Engineer
Location: Barrow upon Soar, LE12 8LD
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 DOE
Duration: Permanent / Full Time

The Role
Applied Thermal Control is the UK's leading manufacturer of compact recirculating chillers. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our team.
We're looking for an all-rounder with a strong mechanical design background, particularly in sheet metal, who understands the wider impact of engineering changes. Some electrical knowledge or a willingness to develop this is also important.
Key Responsibilities
- Create sheet metal designs using Autodesk Inventor for standard and bespoke products.
- Produce manufacturing drawings, BOMs and job packs for Production.
- Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and understand their impact across the wider business.
- Maintain drawings and technical documentation, including user and maintenance manuals.
- Provide technical support to Production and Service.
- Support prototype development and R&D projects.
- Develop practical, manufacturable design solutions in line with relevant standards.
- Support configured electrical design by adapting existing electrical drawings.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of product reliability, efficiency and performance.

Essential
- Experience in a mechanical design, product development or similar engineering role.
- Strong 3D CAD skills, ideally Autodesk Inventor, with proven sheet metal design experience.
- Experience producing manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
- Experience with ECNs / engineering change control and an understanding of their wider business impact.
- Good understanding of design for manufacture and practical engineering.
- Basic understanding of pumps and fluid systems.
- Some electrical knowledge, or willingness to develop electrical drawing skills.
- Practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
- Good attention to detail and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

Qualifications & Experience
- HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent practical engineering experience.
- Ideally 3+ years' experience in a design or product development environment.
Desirable
- Experience with refrigeration systems, chillers or fluid circuits.
- Experience selecting or specifying pumps.
- Experience creating or modifying electrical drawings.
