Join Our Client as a Design Engineer - Electrical Infrastructure

The Opportunity
In response to substantial growth and strategic development, our Client is expanding their Design team to support diverse energy projects, including high-voltage grid connections, solar farms, and battery energy storage systems. This role offers a unique chance to contribute meaningfully to vital infrastructure and renewable energy initiatives that are helping shape a sustainable future. As a key member of the team, you will influence project success at a strategic level, delivering designs that impact communities and the energy landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical reviews of projects and connection offers from Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and National Grid.
- Develop detailed electrical designs and conceptual layouts for grid connections and private networks ranging from LV to 132kV.
- Oversee the production of single-line diagrams, cable routing, switchgear, transformers, and protection system specifications.
- Conduct cable sizing, protection coordination, and device selection studies to ensure optimal system performance.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure design integrity and buildability.
- Manage and coordinate design subcontractors, ensuring adherence to standards, policies, and quality benchmarks.
- Support site visits and operational teams to ensure smooth execution and resolve on-site queries.
- Assist with procurement processes, ensuring equipment specifications meet project needs and standards.
- Maintain compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality policies throughout the project lifecycle.

What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience within contracting, consulting, or similar sectors specialising in electrical infrastructure.
- Practical experience with HV/EHV systems, working with IDNOs, DNOs, or ICPs.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and IT systems, with strong numeracy skills.
- Hands-on knowledge of standards including BSEN, IEC, IEEE, and CENELEC.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities and experience in overseeing design delivery.
- A full UK driving licence and a proactive approach to teamwork and communication.

Desirable Attributes
- Experience with substations, switchgear, and protection device selection.
- Familiarity with energy storage systems such as batteries and solar farm integration.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and managing external contractors.
