At Siemens Electrification & Automation

We’re shaping the future of energy systems by connecting the real and digital worlds. We are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer (depending upon experience) to join our existing friendly and diverse engineering community delivering projects within the Medium Voltage Electrical Distribution Industry.

About the Role

As a Design Engineer you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, customer-focused systems that power critical infrastructure across the UK and Ireland.

This role will be based at our Manchester Office, with the choice to work remotely 2-3 days per week, however, the successful candidate will be expected to travel to visit customers, conduct factory acceptance testing in Northwest England on an ad hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take technical ownership of Medium Voltage Switchgear projects (AIS & GIS) from tender handover through detailed design, manufacture, testing and customer acceptance.
  • Review and interpret customer Specifications, Key Line Diagrams and Single Line Diagrams, ensuring technical requirements are understood and translated into compliant engineering solutions.
  • Produce and develop detailed switchgear designs, including Single Line Diagrams, Switchboard General Arrangements (GAs), Schematic Diagrams and Low Voltage Compartment GAs.
  • Design and integrate Protection and Control solutions, including Protection Relay Selection, configuration and associated control schematics.
  • Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, supporting design reviews, resolving technical queries and managing design changes.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing activities, reviewing completed equipment and verifying compliance with design specifications and customer requirements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
