Tendering & Design Engineer - 33kV HV - Scotland

We are partnering with a growing engineering and infrastructure organisation delivering electrical network solutions that support the transition to renewable energy. The business works across utility, industrial, and energy projects, providing design, construction, and connection services for high voltage infrastructure.

The Role
As a Tendering & Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of high voltage infrastructure projects up to 33kV. Working closely with internal engineering teams, contractors, and network operators, you will lead the development of technically robust and compliant designs that support renewable energy connections and electrical network expansion.
This role offers significant ownership across the tendering and design lifecycle, from initial feasibility assessments through to detailed design packs and construction support.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of HV substations, including layouts, protection and control systems, earthing, and auxiliary services.
- Produce technical designs and tender submissions for new network connections and electrical infrastructure works.
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for network extensions and reinforcement projects.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings including single-line diagrams, schematics, general arrangements, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Coordinate closely with civil and structural engineering teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Liaise with DNOs and IDNOs to secure approvals and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and support cost estimation activities.
- Compile construction design packs incorporating internal and external engineering inputs.
- Identify and mitigate risks throughout design, construction, operation, and decommissioning phases.
- Support client meetings, design reviews, and tender evaluations through technical expertise.
- Ensure all designs comply with health, safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of current industry standards, grid requirements, and engineering best practice.

Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Power Engineering or HNC/HND with significant HV design experience.
- Minimum three years' experience designing electrical infrastructure at 33kV or above.
- Proven expertise in substation design, protection and control systems, earthing design, and auxiliary systems.
- Strong knowledge of HV plant including transformers, switchgear, CTs, VTs, and associated equipment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and preparation of HV design documentation.
- Experience working with DNOs and IDNOs on design submissions and approvals.
- Strong understanding of ENA, BS, IEC, and relevant utility standards.
- Full UK Driving Licence.

Nice to Have
- Experience preparing or reviewing protection studies and earthing reports.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and communications infrastructure.
- Exposure to renewable energy, energy conversion, or utility-scale generation projects.
- Familiarity with specialist electrical design software.
- Chartered Engineer status or progression towards Chartership.
- Previous experience within an ICP, utility contractor, or IDNO environment.
