Design Engineer - Specialist Vehicle Solutions

Purpose of the Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to support the development and manufacture of specialist vehicle-based solutions. This role will involve designing bespoke mechanical and electrical integration components, producing engineering documentation, and supporting projects from initial concept through to final implementation. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering innovative vehicle enhancement and equipment installation projects while ensuring designs meet quality, safety, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop design solutions for specialist vehicle modification and equipment integration projects.
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Design brackets, mounting systems, enclosures, and supporting vehicle adaptations.
- Create and maintain engineering specifications, assembly instructions, and bills of materials.
- Ensure all designs align with relevant industry standards, safety requirements, and operational specifications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, purchasing, and workshop teams to support efficient project delivery.
- Assist with prototype development, product trials, and design verification activities.
- Investigate technical issues and implement corrective design improvements where required.
- Maintain engineering records, design revisions, and document control procedures.
- Support supplier and customer technical discussions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product performance, quality, and cost efficiency.

Candidate Requirements
- Qualifications: HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Previous experience in a design engineering role within a manufacturing, automotive, transport, or engineering environment.
- Skills:
- Proficient in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, AutoCAD, CATIA, or similar.
- Understanding of fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience producing technical drawings and engineering documentation.
- Awareness of electrical or electro-mechanical integration would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise workload effectively.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
Desirable Experience
- Experience designing equipment installations, vehicle enhancements, mobile workspaces, transport solutions, or specialist engineering products.
- Exposure to regulated industries where compliance and documentation are essential.
- Knowledge of mechanical assemblies, electrical systems integration, or bespoke product development.
- Familiarity with engineering change control processes.

Package
- Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
- Position: Permanent, full-time
- Shifts: Day shifts
