Strickland MFG is seeking a skilled and innovative Design Engineer to join our Engineering team
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of products that support our customers and drive business success.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing engineering designs, producing detailed CAD models and drawings, supporting new product development, and improving existing products to enhance performance, manufacturability, and reliability. Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and other internal stakeholders, you will play a key role throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through to production.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Product Development
- Develop engineering designs, models, and technical drawings using CAD software.
- Translate conceptual ideas into detailed, manufacturable designs.
- Carry out feasibility studies, engineering calculations, and design validation activities.
- Support prototype manufacture, testing, and product validation.
Collaboration and Technical Support
- Work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and other departments throughout projects.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance where required.
- Support production by resolving engineering and design-related issues.
- Ensure project objectives, timescales, and customer requirements are achieved through effective collaboration.
Design Improvement and Compliance
- Review and improve existing products to enhance performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and company specifications.
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles where appropriate.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Engineering function.

Documentation and Record Management
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, engineering reports, and design records.
- Ensure engineering documentation is accurately controlled, maintained, and updated.
- Manage design information in accordance with company procedures and document control requirements.
- Support document management activities using relevant engineering software systems.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience in a Design Engineering position or have completed a relevant engineering apprenticeship or placement. You will be confident producing engineering designs using CAD software and possess a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles.
You will have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, a creative approach to design, and exceptional attention to detail. The ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively across departments is essential.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a Design Engineering role or relevant engineering apprenticeship or placement.
- Proficiency in CAD software together with a good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering materials.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Creative and innovative approach to engineering design.
- Adaptable and able to work effectively within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- HNC or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Product Design or a related discipline), or alternatively, proven relevant industry experience.

Desirable Requirements
- Knowledge of heavy machinery attachments, hydraulic systems, and engineering design methodologies.
- Experience using Windchill PLM and/or Creo CAD software.
- Experience with engineering simulation and analysis tools such as FEA or CFD.
- Knowledge of project management principles.
- Familiarity with industry standards, compliance requirements, and ISO standards.
- Further professional engineering qualifications.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Passport and willingness to travel internationally.

Pay: £26,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
