K&K Talents is an international recruiting agency that has been providing technical resources in the European region since 1993. This position is with one of our clients in the UK who is actively hiring candidates to expand their teams.

Position: Design Engineer for Gas Turbine

Location: Derby, UK (Onsite)
Type: Permanent role

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply principles of product safety, robust design, system engineering, DFX, and producibility.
  • Work with the Integrated project team in a collaborative environment to mature the design through gated technical reviews, securing buyoffs by demonstrating that the physical and functional solutions provided achieve the desired product requirements and attributes such as life, cost, weight, serviceability.
  • Deliver definitions for manufacturing – this may be done in the traditional drawings or Model Based Definitions whilst complying with the customer operating procedures and best practices.
  • To be part of the team with experience in modelling, drafting, and MBD on a variety of complex components and sub-assemblies in the core turbomachinery domain (such as Compressor, combustion, Rotative discs, casings, structures, Turbine Statics, shafts, etc.) may be advantageous.
  • Integrate physical design solutions at module level and/or with the owners of non-physical data functions such as Air Systems, Oil Systems, aerothermal, Performance, etc.
  • On a need basis, address the arisings from the fleet and perform root cause investigation to help improve the safety, Reliability, and Availability; Also assess the impact on the component assemblies based on changes to the understanding of the engine operating conditions.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine components or an understanding of material, thermal, mechanical, and dynamic issues associated with the core turbomachinery components/modules (such as Compressor, combustion, Rotative discs, casings, structures, Turbine Statics, shafts, etc.) may be advantageous.
  • Prior experience of working in the gas turbine product, aviation industry, or within the APQP/PPAP framework (Aerospace Standard AS9145) may be advantageous.
  • Deliver geometrical definitions for engineered products – this may need you to create 3D models, Digital Assemblies, General Arrangements drawings, sections, Models for stress analysis, etc.
  • Deliver the manufacturing instructions whilst complying with the customer operating procedures and best practices.
  • Interact with Designers, Manufacturing to deliver the FM objectives including producibility.
  • Achieve the Right First Time and On Time Delivery targets planned deliverables in design to make.
  • Develop optimized high-quality code deliverables, continual knowledge management, and adherence to the organizational guidelines and processes.
  • GD&T ASME Y14.5 and understanding of Mass Properties

  • Should have many years of working experience on Turbomachinery components like Gas Turbine for Power and/or Aviation industry.
  • Experience with CAD and PLM packages.
  • Interest in mentorship for junior or mid-level engineers.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
