Description

Are you an experienced Design Engineer with a strong mechanical design and product development background? Do you have experience taking products from concept through to production and enjoy getting involved with CAD, prototyping, testing and manufacturing? This could be an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering business working on highly technical, safety-critical products.

Impact Recruitment are currently working with a specialist UK manufacturer of safety-critical respiratory protective equipment, supplying products to industrial and military customers. They are looking for a Design Engineer to take ownership of projects across the full product lifecycle, working closely with manufacturing, quality, customers, suppliers and external testing organisations. This is a hands-on role offering genuine variety beyond CAD, including product development, prototyping, testing, technical support and problem solving.

Location: Aldershot

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 07:30 - 17:00 & Friday, 07:30 - 12:30

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 (depending on relevant experience and technical capability)

Contract: Permanent

Duties

  • Design and develop safety-critical mechanical products for industrial and military applications.
  • Take products from initial concept through design, 3D modelling, prototyping, testing and production.
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Support manufacturing with design and technical queries.
  • Work on product improvements and new product development (NPI).
  • Apply appropriate design and quality tools, including DFMEA.
  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures and prototypes where required.
  • Support testing, design experiments and quality activities.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and external testing organisations.
  • Manage external design and testing resources where required.
  • Provide technical problem solving and manufactured product support.
  • Work to relevant regulatory and published engineering standards.

A suitable candidate would have the following experience:

  • Have previous experience working as a Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Product Design Engineer or similar.
  • Have a strong mechanical engineering and product design background.
  • Have experience taking manufactured products from concept through to production.
  • Have experience with 3D CAD and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Have an understanding of design for manufacture.
  • Have experience with manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, rubber moulding, precision machining or fabrication.
  • Have experience working with close-tolerance mechanical systems.
  • Have experience with rapid prototyping and manufactured product support.
  • Hold a relevant engineering qualification. A relevant engineering degree would be desirable but is not essential where the candidate has strong practical experience.
  • Be comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience with CREO Parametric / Pro-Engineer Wildfire.
  • CREO surface modelling experience.
  • SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD packages.
  • Experience with breathing valves, breathing apparatus or respiratory equipment.
  • Experience with pneumatics, instrumentation or control systems.
  • Experience designing test jigs and fixtures.
  • Previous experience working with military contracts or military equipment.
  • Aerospace, PPE, medical devices or other safety-critical product experience.
  • Experience with plastics and polymer-based products.
