About The Role

We are currently seeking a Building Services Design Engineer with a strong electrical background to join a dynamic and collaborative consultancy. This is a fully remote position based in Manchester, offering a competitive salary ranging from £55,000 to £65,000, along with bonus schemes and comprehensive company benefits. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing electrical systems for a variety of commercial projects across the UK, including fire, security, and lighting systems. You will have the autonomy to manage projects of varying sizes, from £200,000 to £30 million, and will be supported in your professional development through ongoing mentorship and shadowing opportunities with senior leadership. This role presents an excellent pathway to progress into a Senior Engineer position, with ample scope to take on larger responsibilities as you grow within the company.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a background in building services engineering with a focus on electrical systems. Relevant qualifications include a degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field. Prior experience working within building services, particularly on commercial projects, is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of electrical design principles, specifications, and standards. Experience with fire, security, and lighting systems is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and the ability to attend site meetings confidently are also important. Chartered status or working towards chartership would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Responsibilities

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing electrical systems for various building projects
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client specifications
  • Preparing detailed electrical designs, specifications, and drawings
  • Collaborating closely with project teams and attending site meetings to oversee implementation
  • Designing fire alarm systems, security systems, and lighting schemes tailored to the needs of each project
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards are met
  • Leading design efforts and liaising with clients and contractors to ensure seamless execution
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Staying updated on industry best practices and technological advancements
