Design Engineer
We're looking for a Design Engineer to join our Kier Design team based in various locations. Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor. Become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline – supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.
Location: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Salary: starting from £40,000

Are you…
- Working towards or have completed IEng Initial Professional Development with a relevant professional institution
- Holding a Level 6 or Level 7 qualification with demonstrable experience
- Bringing significant experience to the role
- In possession of a full driving licence
- Someone who enjoys collaborative working and building effective relationships

What will you be responsible for?
As Design Engineer, you'll be working within the Construction Engineering team, supporting them in delivering complex construction engineering services. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the delivery of complex construction engineering services across a broad range of projects. As a Design Engineer, you'll work collaboratively with talented teams to provide innovative, safe and buildable solutions. Your expertise will support tender development, technical assessments, value engineering, and the resolution of design challenges. This role offers variety, from temporary works design and checking to providing technical support as a centre of engineering excellence. You'll have the chance to develop professionally whilst making a meaningful impact on projects that shape our communities.
Your Day To Day Will Include
- Contributing to temporary works design and checking, integrated with permanent works design
- Supporting tender and bid winning activities including outline design schemes and feasibility studies
- Delivering alternative solutions and value engineering to enhance competitive position
- Conducting technical assessments and reviews of third party designs to ensure compliance
- Providing technical expertise and advice, acting as a centre of engineering excellence
