Design Engineer – Custom Studio
Purpose
You will be responsible for supporting the design, engineering and delivery of non-standard product development activities within Custom Studio. The role will contribute technical expertise to custom product requests, create engineering documentation, costings and support the successful execution of custom projects while ensuring alignment with NaughtOne standards and manufacturing capabilities.
Responsibilities / Key Deliverables
- Assess custom product requests and support feasibility reviews for product adaptations, variations, and bespoke solutions.
- Produce 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, renderings, and technical documentation for custom products.
- Work with the Custom Options Manager and cross-functional teams to develop custom solutions that balance customer requirements, manufacturability, quality, and cost.
- Support the development and testing of prototypes, including coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Create and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and associated ERP system data to enable accurate manufacturing and order processing.
- Support custom projects from quotation through production, ensuring engineering deliverables are completed within agreed timescales.
- Provide technical support for manufacturing, supply chain, sales, and customer service teams relating to custom products.
- Assist in resolving technical issues and identifying continuous improvement opportunities associated with custom products and processes.
- Contribute engineering resource and technical support to broader product development activities as required.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Degree, HNC, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing or a related field.
- Experience working with CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and product construction; furniture industry experience advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with ERP systems and engineering documentation.
- Demonstrated problem-solving capability and willingness to develop expertise within the custom products environment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, sales, and supply chain teams.

Dimension of the Role
Reporting to the Custom Options Manager based from the NaughtOne head office in Harrogate, key interfaces will include Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and suppliers to develop and implement custom solutions
