Design Engineer (Design Systems) @ OxiWorks

Location: Stourbridge, West Midlands (Hybrid)
Type: Full-time - Permanent
Salary: Competitive & Benefits
Reports to: Design Manager / Design Systems Lead

Role Summary

You’ll sit between design and code, building design systems that work across web and native platforms - and that AI agents can read and use as well as people.

This is our most AI-forward role: you’ll set up the tooling that connects Figma, tokens, code and AI assistants so our designers and our clients’ engineers ship faster and stay consistent.

What you’ll do

  • Build and maintain design systems for OxiWorks and our clients, from Figma libraries and variables to coded component libraries
  • Own the design token pipeline: define tokens in Figma, transform them (e.g. Style Dictionary, Tokens Studio) and ship them to web, iOS and Android
  • Make our design systems AI-ready: set up Figma’s MCP server and Code Connect, structure components and docs so AI coding assistants generate on-system code, and write the rules, prompts and context files those tools rely on
  • Build AI-assisted workflows for the company and our clients - for example design-to-code handoff, automated component docs, accessibility and consistency checks, and rapid coded prototyping with tools like Claude Code or Cursor
  • Build and document components in React and Storybook, with accessibility built in
  • Audit client products and systems, find inconsistencies and plan migrations onto a shared system
  • Pair with product designers, run workshops on new tools and keep the team up to date on what’s worth adopting
  • Be an approachable, trusted partner to client engineering and design teams, guiding them on governance, versioning and contribution models

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you’ll bring

  • 2-3 years working on design systems, front-end engineering or design engineering
  • Hands-on, daily use of AI coding and design tools - e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Figma MCP - with examples of workflows you’ve set up and not just used
  • Deep Figma knowledge: variables, modes, components, properties and library management
  • Experience with design tokens and multi-platform theming, including how they map to native iOS and Android
  • A solid grasp of accessibility standards and how to bake them into components
  • A friendly, approachable style and clear writing: you explain technical ideas to clients and designers without jargon and your documentation is something people actually use

Nice to have

  • A design background or portfolio
  • Hands-on native experience in iOS and Android design language
  • Experience building MCP servers, Figma plugins or internal developer tooling
  • Experience setting up multi-brand or white-label systems (common across our sports, betting and eCommerce clients)
  • Experience with CI/CD, visual regression testing (e.g. Chromatic) and package publishing
