Overview

Lutron–Orluna is seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer to join our team at our Dunstable office.

In this role, you will support the Engineering team with the design, development, and enhancement of Orluna’s current and future products. The position expands our engineering capacity, enabling faster project delivery while maintaining high quality standards. It also offers opportunities for technical growth, knowledge sharing, and career development within a design‑focused, growing engineering team.


Responsibilities

Technical & Engineering Support

  • Contribute to the detailed design, development, and validation of LED lighting products in collaboration with the engineering team.
  • Create and update 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and supporting engineering documentation.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues across both existing and new product ranges.
  • Support testing, prototyping, and performance validation activities.
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable standards, compliance requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

Project Delivery & Speed to Market

  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams—including Production, Purchasing, Customer Services, and Sales—to facilitate smooth product development and launch.
  • Help drive projects toward timely completion while maintaining required quality standards.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables are accurate, complete, and delivered on schedule.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2:1 classification.
  • Experience in product design and development within a manufacturing environment; experience in lighting or electronics is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or CREO).
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA principles.
  • Knowledge of thermal management, materials selection, and core mechanical design principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and balance competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication and collaborative working abilities.

Desirable

  • Experience with LED lighting or related technologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards (e.g., CE, UL).
  • Experience in fast‑paced product development settings.
  • Exposure to project management tools or structured NPD processes.
