About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join our world-leading Materials Handling product team. The role is responsible for tele-handler machine engineering and is key in designing and shaping our future product range. We are passionate about our products and strive to continually evolve and innovate.


What Does This Role Involve Day to Day?

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will join a highly focused, passionate team, working on exciting new programmes to both maintain and further extend JCB’s Tele-handler range of machines. Your main duties will include:

  • Ownership and responsibility for areas of the machine liaising with multi-disciplined teams and driving change forward.
  • Understanding the application of Tele-handlers and the customer requirements.
  • Reviewing Sales and Marketing requirements and being part of the team translating this into a design brief with performance deliverables.
  • Defining the machine BOM.
  • Supervision of machine builds for development.
  • Diagnosing machine technical issues and work with different teams to solve problems.
  • Problem analysis and proposal of design solutions.
  • Analysis, reporting and presentation of designs and calculations.
  • Liaise with internal / external customers / departments, as required during projects.
  • Product homologation and legislative conformance.
  • Provide information for Engineering Sign-Off records, DVPSOR’s and Technical Construction Files.

This Will Be Suited to You If…

  • You have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or have equivalent industry experience.
  • You have experience in the design and development of Off-Highway vehicles.
  • You have good working knowledge of drivetrain, hydraulics and electrical / electronic systems.
  • You have an enthusiastic attitude, coupled with a sense of urgency and desire to succeed.
  • You have good teamwork and communication skills with ability to influence change.
  • You have good working knowledge of 3D CAD systems – preferably Siemens NX.
  • You have good working knowledge of Team Centre for data management.
  • You have strong Microsoft Office skills.
