Design Engineer (Temporary Works)
Location: Watford

Are you a talented Design Engineer with a passion for solving complex construction challenges? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where your designs have a direct impact on major infrastructure and construction projects?
We are seeking a Degree Qualified Design Engineer to join a highly respected engineering team supporting the delivery of innovative and practical temporary works and construction engineering solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile projects while developing your technical expertise within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.
The Role
As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing safe, innovative and commercially viable engineering solutions that support construction operations. Working closely with site teams and stakeholders, you will identify engineering challenges, produce robust designs and contribute to successful project delivery.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing temporary works and construction engineering solutions.
- Producing designs in accordance with relevant standards, codes and industry best practice.
- Undertaking engineering analysis and calculations to support design development.
- Preparing design risk assessments and contributing to risk management processes.
- Supporting construction teams in identifying and resolving engineering challenges.
- Evaluating alternative design options and producing cost-effective solutions.
- Using industry-standard design software and validating outputs through engineering principles and hand calculations.
- Maintaining accurate design records and technical documentation.
- Collaborating with colleagues across engineering, construction and project teams.
- Supporting BIM and digital engineering initiatives.
- Contributing to continuous improvement, innovation and sustainable construction objectives.

Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in Temporary Works Design within the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Previous experience working for a Main Contractor or an established Temporary Works Consultancy is essential.
- Good understanding of construction methodologies and buildability.
- Experience producing engineering calculations and technical reports.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and designer responsibilities.
- Familiarity with relevant design standards and codes of practice.
- Experience using engineering design software.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
