Vacancy – Design Engineer
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Terms: Permanent / Full Time
Hours: 38 hours per week
Location: Newtown, Powys
Reporting to: Head of Engineering

About The Role
We are looking for a Design Engineer to join our expanding Design team in Newtown.
This opportunity could suit someone at different stages of their engineering career, from a recent engineering graduate looking to develop their skills in a hands-on manufacturing environment, through to an experienced Design Engineer looking for their next challenge.
Working as part of the Design team, you will be involved in the design and development of new and existing products, taking ideas from initial concept through to manufacture.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and develop new products and modify existing designs to meet customer and business requirements.
- Produce 3D models, detailed engineering drawings and supporting design documentation.
- Work on design projects from initial concept through to manufacture.
- Work closely with Production and other departments to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture.
- Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and relevant product information.
- Support the design of tooling, jigs and fixtures where required.
- Resolve technical and manufacturing issues and support improvements to existing products.
- Consider materials, manufacturing methods, quality and cost throughout the design process.
- Contribute to new ideas, product development and continuous improvement.

About You
We’re looking for someone with a strong interest and background in mechanical engineering and product design, who can bring a practical and considered approach to developing products for manufacture.
Ideally, You'll Have
- A relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience using 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks experience desirable.
- A good understanding of mechanical engineering and engineering design principles.
- An understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and design for manufacture.
- The ability to produce clear and accurate engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Good practical problem-solving and analytical skills.
- The ability to manage your own workload and contribute to multiple design projects.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Production and other departments.
- A methodical approach with good attention to detail.
