Power Systems Design Engineer – Renewable Energy

We're currently supporting a growing renewable energy business in the search for an experienced Power Systems Design Engineer to join its engineering team.

This is an opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of commercial and utility-scale renewable energy projects, from approximately 200 kW commercial installations through to 60 MW solar farms.

You'll play a key role in taking projects from concept and grid connection through detailed design, procurement, construction and energisation, working closely with DNOs, contractors, suppliers and internal project teams.

The Role

You'll be responsible for developing and reviewing high-quality electrical designs and technical documentation across HV and LV power systems.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing HV and LV electrical systems for commercial and utility-scale power generation projects
• Developing and reviewing system architectures and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) from concept through detailed design
• Managing and coordinating grid connection applications and technical submissions with DNOs
• Ensuring designs comply with G99, G100, UK Grid Code and relevant ENA requirements
• Coordinating grid studies including load flow, fault level, protection coordination and power quality assessments
• Specifying primary electrical plant including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, inverters and metering
• Supporting protection design and relay settings in accordance with grid and DNO requirements
• Reviewing DNO connection offers and responding to technical queries
• Providing technical support through procurement, FAT, SAT, commissioning and energisation
• Supporting design reviews, risk assessments and value engineering activities
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant BS, IEC, ENA and project-specific standards
