Our Opportunity

We currently have an opening in our Engineering team for a Design Engineer. This role will be primarily working in our ongoing projects to maintain and renew London Underground’s operational network, focusing on telecoms and network solutions.

As a Design Engineer, you will design solutions that meet the needs of our clients and users within the rail domain. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, design and implement solutions, and ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our products, solutions and services.

You will be responsible for the design production, design estimates, design programs and design work packages for bids, projects and services to contract requirements, standards, budget, and on-time delivery. You will undertake the role of Designer as identified in the CDM regulations, with particular attention to design risks, ensuring that safety risks are designed out or deemed as low as reasonably practicable.

This is a hybrid role working a minimum of two days per week from our Waterloo office site.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into designs
  • Design solutions using industry best practice, processes and tools.
  • Produce designs that are buildable and maintainable that meet customer requirements and relevant standards and legislation.
  • Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and other issues.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project.
  • Understand and follow the project delivery processes, methodologies, and use the defined tools as set out in the Hitachi Rail Management System and the project specific Engineering Management Plans.
  • Escalate issues to the Senior Design Engineer where necessary
  • Provide status reports to the Senior Design Engineer

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
